A New Fashion Masterpiece or A Bag Of Bull? – Balenciaga’s Blanket Tote Bag $3,670.

Lets get one thing straight. I love fashion. And, I love trends and designer bags just like every other fashionista/o. I’m a BAGSLUT after all. But sometimes, the top designers get carried away with the power of their brand names and just make stupid bags and charge an inordinate amount of money.

I was on Net-a-Porter.com just browsing through some bags and noticed Balenciaga’s new Blanket Tote Bag. At first, I thought, okay Balenciaga is adding home accessories to their line so this must be a new blanket that they’ve added. NOPE.  After reading the description and looking at the photos, I was suprised to see that Balenciaga just made an oversized “blanket bag” influenced blanket tote bag retailing at $3,670 USD.

This bag looks like the blanket bags you see at Ross retailing at about $40 or less. You can also see these bags on Los Angeles St. in Downtown Los Angeles at a wholesale blanket shop selling for $10 a blanket. They even got the logo on the top corner down exactly the same! LOL!

Usually, fashion forward companies like Forever21 and Zara use the high end designers for inspiration. But looks like the roles have changed and Balenciaga went to the bottom low for their inspiration on this one.

Yes, the image has a nice floral design with eye popping colors. Yes, the bag is made out of “multi-colored textured leather.” Yes, it was made in Italy. And yes, the oversized bag designs are in. But $3,670? Is this a really a good look? What do y’all think?

Besides the brand name and the oversized bag design being trendy, I think this is a bag of bull. I personally wouldn’t pay almost four grand for this even if I had money blowing out of my ass.

Trends don’t last long…at least I hope this won’t last long. Will we see more of these types of bags from Balenciaga or other designer brands?

Tell us what you think. Am I being over critical on this new fashion master piece? Or is it just a bag of bull and Balenciaga lost their creative touch?

Why Bags?

How many bags have you purchased in the past year? Have you spent more than your pay check just on one bag? Did you sacrifice traveling to Europe or continued to ignore the “check engine” light on your car just so you can buy a new bag? What is this strong appeal women have on expensive bags and what drives them to make these sacrifices?

After working in the fashion industry and observing how women interact, bags are more than just an accessory,  it’s an outward expression of individualism compartmentalized all in one bag.

Designer bags represent a woman’s status, fashion style, and independence. Women are no longer the stereotypical “stay at home” moms. They’re out working and proudly expressing to the world their independence.

But not only are designer bags an indicator of women’s self reliance, but functional to carry “essential” products that they must have at all times. From mobile phone, wallet, make-up, and keys to tampons, chewing gum, condoms and even extra pair of socks, bags are more than just a reflection of who they are, but also modern day survival kits to make it throughout the day.

So why designer bags? Well that brings us to a slightly bigger picture: we are all blank canvases and the clothes we wear are a reflection of our individualism. I believe bags are the sprinkle on top of the whip cream. It adds that extra color and sparkle to the overall dessert, which makes it look and taste that much better.

Does the bag always have to be a designer brand? For some people, maybe; but I strongly believe you don’t need to have one in order to look good. That’s why I created my own bag company BAGSLUT. I love bags and our products are fashionable and unique in style to accentuate everyday outfit. Also, our prices are fair and affordable so that you can multiply your looks throughout each season. I’m a true BAGSLUT, because one bag is never enough.

I hope my first post gives you an idea of what my company is about and if you love bags as much as we do, I hope to see you at my shop at www.bagslut.com.
